I just got a tablet and Im trying to figure out digital painting. this was really helpful! thanks! Btw, have you ever heard of the Dresden Files? This picture makes me think of the White Court vampire named Thomas. And no, these are decent hardcore vampires, not sparkly ones haha

this tutorial was great but i just have one question, when you paint you go over your sketch lines, does that mean you go back and erase all the areas that are over the sketch or is their a quicker way?

Thank you  Here I disabled sketch layer and I simply painted details. Nowadays I usually don't make line sketches...I start with rough painting and I just add more and more details :la:

One thing I don't get, you have lineart in one step and then the next step it's gone, but your painting outlines look smooth none the less... How? ._. I'm trying to do digital painting without the lineart around it, but I just can't seem to grasp the trick to it :/

That's just a sketch...not lineart ;P I don't paint linearts at the beginning :la: I draw them almost at the end...when I finish detailing...in almost the same color as the main object, just a little darker, so that it's almost invisible :dummy:

Thanks you for taking your time to do this. I have been asking all over DA if somebody could paint my character from my series for a good price.
But no luck. But now that this is here. I will give it a shot. I am truly grateful that you have done something like this for us on D.A.

Just showing my appreciation :) This is really useful!

Awesome tutorial.

I do have a question about the sketch lines. What do you do with them when you transition from to color? I always have trouble with that portion of the process. I never know if I should just turn them off when I fill in basic color and go from there, or something else.

Thank you....:huggle: I usually have sketch at the top (above all layers) and I color under them (the base paint)...when I start to add details then I turn them off :D But lately my sketches doesn't look like lineart any more...I start to paint immediately. At the beginning of progress my painting can look like abstract art...haha :giggle:
